alcare AG - Digital healthcare in real time

Living better for longer. In spring 2017, alcare AG was launched as a consulting company in the e-health sector.

As a general contractor for digital healthcare in real time, alcare AG wants to work with its partners to further advance the use of digitalization in SmartHealth@Home and in workplace health promotion, in line with the motto "from therapy to prevention". The mission is to be able to offer patients a healthier life and to help reduce concerns, doubts and mistrust about digitalization in the healthcare sector and to build trust and skills.

CEO Prof. Dr. med Christiane Brockes is one of the first movers in this field. She has been involved in preventive medicine for half her life and has been using digitalization in everyday clinical practice and research ever since it was introduced. She has been involved in telemedicine and e-health research for 25 years. alcare AG also conducts clinical research projects in the field of e-health and telemedicine. The transfer from research to services is important to those responsible. The increased use of telemedicine also promotes the "empowerment" desired by patients and can help to overcome demographic change and the shortage of specialists. In recent years, telemedicine services have been significantly expanded in institutional and private settings. Thanks to the location-independent and continuous collection of measured values, it is not only possible to react promptly in emergency situations, but also to prevent illness and improve health.

Working together for prevention

The partners of alcare AG are municipalities, senior citizens' facilities, hospitals and medical practices, prisons, patient associations, research institutions and companies in the context of digital workplace health promotion. Here, alcare AG can represent digital preventive healthcare and healthcare provision in the sense of prevention in general, but also for specific diseases, e.g. in the cardiovascular sector or for lung diseases. Networking with other players is more than sensible and can also save healthcare costs. Ultimately, the aim is to establish and expand integrated care, which benefits patients in particular. When alcare AG acts on behalf of a general practitioner or a hospital, it typically receives a referral to carry out the telemedical service. Those responsible work closely with the primary care provider and act on their behalf, regardless of time and place, at any time of day or night. It is important to emphasize that patients remain in the care of the local doctor. The company provides status reports and trends that serve as decision-making aids for treatment adjustments. By continuously monitoring vital parameters, changes are detected immediately, thus anticipating emergencies and helping to slow down the prevention and progression of diseases as much as possible.

Independent living in old age

The first municipalities have decided to use sensor technology to support autonomous living in people's own homes for as long as possible. This is interesting from both a safety and financial perspective, both for the primary users and for the municipality and canton concerned. It also fulfills the deeply rooted desire to live independently at home for a long time. Thanks to modern sensor technology and remote care, people's own homes can gain more security and quality of life. The focus is on the objective measurement of activities and vital parameters and prompt (tele)medical intervention. Participants in a pilot project have realized that with the help of telemonitoring of vital parameters and habits, they experience more safety, health and quality of life at home and this can enable a longer self-determined life at home. The trust for digitalization in healthcare is there - living better for longer.
